It is the former residence of Dr. John Batchelor, who is known for Ainu missions and research, located to the west of the main building of the Hokkaido University Faculty of Agriculture Museum, which was built in 1891 and was relocated in 1883. It is a Western-style building with an iron plate thatched roof.
